The "photo/video-graphic" project CHILDREN OF THE ISLANDS was born following my trip to Southern Tanzania between 2017 and 2018. During my stay of just under a year in this wonderful country located in Central Africa, I had the great honor of meeting Malcolm Ryen. Malcolm is an Environmental Conservation specialist who has been involved for decades in protecting one of the many environments that are part of our Great Mother Earth.
I know I don't know | Be poets be "Scientists" ... Without DOGMI discover new things, doubt and investigate so as not to replace the purity of life and of NATURE, even HUMAN, with an enormous MECHANICAL SYSTEM.
Thanks to the support and help of Malcolm I managed to spend some time in an archipelago, south of Zanzibar, called SongoSongo which takes its name from its main island and thanks to the Municipality of Valdobbiadene and the councilor for culture Giorgia Falcade, I decided to tell this story in a photographic and videographic exhibition that will be inaugurated on Saturday 1st April 2023 at 18:00 at the former factory of Villa Dei Cedri.
A COLLECTION OF PORTRAITS AND IMAGES which has the hope of communicating the importance of a return to "feeling" our land again. Earth understood as Mother Planet, with which we should continue to have a bond and of which, in the words of Sebasitao Salgado and his son Ribeiro, we are all "salt".
Our society is amazed by the variety and enormous natural wealth of these almost untouched places in the middle of the Indian Ocean. At the same time indifferent and as if in a trance induced by the capitalism of the last 100 years, unaware and capable of confusing poverty with the richness of being in balance with the places that surround us. A wealth far greater than that accumulated with gold, silver or money.
45 Shots accompanied by a 28-minute documentary which includes interviews with Roberto Mengoni (Italian Ambassador in Dar es-Salaam) and with Malcolm Ryen himself. Faces of a fishing people in an almost "pristine" environment, above all thanks to the work of Malcolm by Nicola Colangelo and his collaborators. All this in contrast with an environment which, although always "paradisiacal", has been "contaminated" by the system of values that distinguishes our chaotic society.
True WEALTH, that of being in symbiosis with one's land and seas, and even more ... being CONSCIOUS of it. A state of GRACE, not the accumulation of Material goods. We live in degenerate times and the hope of a more HUMAN future is in the smiles and eyes of these children
